This neckpiece is comprised of 38 individual necklaces, each of which is a hand formed spiculum-like pendant, strung on buckskin. The forms of the individual copper beads were inspired by natural forms of mountains, legs, twigs, seed pods and more, as part of a body of work exploring recurring forms in nature and in human cultures. The overall form of the necklace was conceived of as a status symbol reflecting an accumulation of wealth as a means to gain respect, to be seen as beautiful, important, or powerful. The piece also reflects the human instinct to collect, a compulsion that created the art world as we know it. Buckskin, Copper 18”x9”x3” 2015
